After wiping out of his third college, Casey returns home rinsed, washed and wasted. But his old townie friends, surf bums Brody and Clam, won’t let him quit till he grabs a board and starts paddling.
ANTHONY DEFEO, Writer & Director
Like Casey, I started surfing late (I was 20 when I first got on a board). Raised in a fishing town on Long Island, I have a deep reverence for the water and the part the oceans play in our lives. “Bummer” is my first writing and directorial effort; by day I’m a set decorator and dresser for film and media. With this project I hope to touch upon some of the concerns and anxieties of young people trying to find a path in a world with increasingly complex choices. All the while, “Bummer” encourages the audience: take a deep breath, go to your happy place and let it roll right over you.
Ross Warr, Director of Photography
I have been working as a cinematographer in Los Angeles for the past few years and have fallen in love with telling stories from behind the camera through images and lighting. "Bummer" is especially exciting to me as I will have the chance to shoot in the ocean, capturing the story and characters in an up-close and personal way. The amazing crew and I are working hard to bring a nostalgic and vintage look to the film, which will serve the emotion and tone of the story. Helping tell unique, personal stories are the reason I have dedicated my life towards this pursuit, and I am confident we will be able to make a beautiful, touching film.
CASSANDRA REVERE, Production Designer
It is an honor to be introduced as the Production Designer of team Bummer. This type of second-puberty, coming of age again, “I’m a grown up, now what?” story feels very homey to me as LA unexpectedly turned into my new beginning. Making art & media with friends has given meaning to everything, and in this I hope our story entertains and comforts those who find themselves in a transient period not spoken about enough. I intend to bring deeply personal touch to this film by building robust spaces and saturated worlds to showcase these characters in.
DANTE MARINO, Sound Mixer
I want people to feel immersed in the story and setting of this film. The beach has a very distinct soundscape that presents difficulties and opportunities when it comes to sound design. It’s going to be a fun challenge and I’m looking forward to capturing both the beauty and power of the ocean.
TOMMY ZHAO, Gaffer
I have great expectations for this project, and terrible balance. I’m eager to explore the zen in between crashing and getting back on the board. The monkey’s name is Soto.
